Default Failed MOT but now all good

Took the Vectra for the MOT on Tuesday and all seemed to be going well. Looked under the car while it was up in the air and very surprised how clean it was, probably because I just mainly use motorways I suppose.

Anyway, all was going well until he got round to the back end. The NS rear spring has snapped so immediate fail.... was gutted.

Got the car back home and gave AutoVaux a call, pair of new rear springs was £97 so got them ordered and collected Wednesday.

Got started Thursday morning after a bacon butty, replaced the broken spring and got round to the supposedly good spring which had also fractured so just goes to show with things like this, always do the pair.

I was surprised how easy the job was to do and it only took an hour to do both, that is including a bolt which didn't want to come out. I was expecting it to be a couple of hours atleast. Managed to get it back in yesterday for a retest and it now sits with almost 13 months MOT

    Happy days!

    Good news then.

I test drove a 56 Mondeo last night just out of interest to how it compared to the Vectra.

Just as I was pulling off the forecourt, there was a twang and metal on floor sound.

Got out and the top coil of the front passenger spring was on the floor!

The chap who MOT'd the car said it was a common fault on the estates but I hear about so many springs going on different cars it sounds more like cheaper materials than anything

    Angry MOT Failure!!??

Bizarre, my Vectra was MOT'd about 2 weeks ago and it also failed for the NS rear spring having a coil 'fractured' off. The garage had a Zafira in at the same time having a front OS spring replaced, and that was well shot.

Guy in the garage reckons they do at least 3 spring replacements a week on average on various models of motors...a sad reflection on the state of the roads me thinks!! Where exactly does are road tax money go??

me neither, speed bumps are there for a reason and it's not to jump over them.

potholes round here are bad but I do my best to avoid them although the odd one does catch you out.
