Default spanner light with no code again

Driving to work and the spanner light came on again the last time was 2weeks ago. No codes stored, light goes away on restart. There is a loss of power when light is on, otherwise car runs well.

have made sure egr is clean, manifold and egr are only 2yrs old, approx 12000 miles. Am going to change fuel, air filters.

One strange thing is that the light came on at the same part of the journey, whilst slowing down to a 30limit. Temp this morning was 6oc so don't think its glow plugs? Any ideas????

How are you reading the code? Someone more knowledgeable than me will probably quote the correct numbers, etc, but some readers will only read check engine codes (engine light), but the spanner light needs something like OP COM to read what code is stored. Avoid the 'ELM 327' interface ones, as they won't read spanner light codes.

I bought a cheap code reader and had the same problem when a spanner light came on for a glow plug circuit fault. A reader that can investigate the multitude of other ECUs will probably see the code, even though the spanner light has now gone out.

    .
What software were you using as my ELM327 interface reads fault codes fine.

it came with PCMSCAN software - seems that software can only talk to the engine ECU & I didn't have a 'check engine' light, only a spanner light on. OPCOM talked to the whole lot and found the stored codes as well.
