    Default £ 29.95 and £ 34.95 M.O.T. 's = In N.E. = NOT £ 54

    I have read a few threads about M.O.T. 's being £ 54 now .

but in the North East .... Benton and Holystone ( Newcastle Upon Tyne )

    they are £ 29.95 and £ 34.95 .

possible , maybe they hit you with the repairs or the hiked up advisory prices .

or maybe they are low because of the recession at the moment and are just trying to tick over .

but i have never had a problem m.o.t. with the £ 34.95 garage and i've been twice now .

Is any other garage lower priced ........ proof please ..... l.o.l.

the £54 is a maximum charge, set by vosa, based on the amount of time an mot should take.
if a garage has lower labour rates the mot can be cheaper

The cost of the MOT isn't very important; if the garage come up with £150 of repairs that MUST be done to pass it (corroded brake pipes for example), you'll soon forget that you saved £20 on the test fee. I'm happy to pay £50 to the same garage 3 years running, because they've proved they're happy to pass a good car without trying to trick me into helping them meet their revenue target for the day.

and it's not the MOT cost you have to worry about, it's the re-test fee. The garage I use charges 52 quid for the MOT but a re-test is free. Kwik Fit etc will charge you a retest fee if the vehicle leaves the premises.

You do the repairs, they make money off the retest
They do the repairs, they make money on the repairs
