    Default Winscreens and Insurance

Got up to clean the car yesterday....Got in to move it away from the garage door and spotted a big crack in the winsdcreen had appeared over-night

I'm with Direct Line Fully comp so the screen will be insured.....less excess of course. Does this harm me No claims or not? Is it worth giving the Insurance a miss?

No, it does not affect your no claims bonus, unless you have more than 3 in 1 year. I know, I am with DL too and yes it happen to me 3 years ago. When I was looking for a quote for this years insurance, I found out after 20 odd years of driving that you have to declare winscreens as accidents. DL put this in to my new policy!!!! Is this exlusive to them or is it the same for everyone.

Hi brocks, I have been with direct line for a while now and I have had a couple of windscreens replaced (had to pay first £50) Does not cause any probs with no-claims. I think you can get chips in the windscreen fixed free.

I’m sure I remember a previous thread about someone having a hard time getting the windscreen rain sensor to work properly after they got a windscreen replace – but I’m probably imagining it again.

Unless you've got portable Sat-nav or a tax disc type carphone antenna. They won't work with a heat reflective windscreen.

Lol, tomtoms don't work even on normal windscreens
    Garmin, now there's a man's GPS

Seriously though. Heat reflective windscreens also reflect radio signals hence why a lot of people have trouble getting GPS reception. I think Renault ones (the really purple ones) are the biggest culprits.

Indeed, brother in laws clio screen won't let his TT work either..

Hand on heart, the TT has no problems with my reflective windscreen..it works just the same as in the signum.

Why TT and not Garmin?? it's what she wanted..simple as..

Just pulling your leg mate At work, I use them for a living. Everybody has Garmin or Magellan.

The VX heat reflective windscreen must be more advanced than the likes of Renault's. I'll maybe have a go at this myself if mine gets damaged.
