Default Are 150's as unreliable as people say?

Had my first Vectra around a month & have read information on this site with some interest. After what I have read I'm now not so sure I have made the right decision in buying one of these! All I wanted was a reliable cheapish car which was big enough for every day use. I'm now beginning to wonder if I have made the right decision.I know cars are not 100% reliable but after some of the things I have read with this model its a wonder why anyone buys one!!

Am I being paranoid or is the 150 that bad? Opinions please

    Thanks

Had no issues with mine at all in the 3 and a half years i had it, Would have ordered another if they still made it.. You'll find good and bad examples of every car make/model sold..

Forums always highlight the catalogue of errors, very seldom do you hear people say how good a car is.

I have now been driving one for 14 months and am still totally smitten and the car so far has been perfectly behaved. They only really have three big problems work around these and they are as reliable as the tax man

You mean Manifold, DMF & the 3rd?

    Yip,

Inlet manifold, DMF and EGR valve the 3rd injector is a 20p fix in truth on pre-blue injector loom cars. Rest is as reliable (or not) as almost any car on the road.

As above, put reports into perspective

Firstly many faults are common to all models, such as springs, shock absorbers, bushes, steering, etc

Nextly are the faults specific to that model
In this case the 1.9 CDTI 150
There are proportionally a large number, so more people will report such issues
Compare that to the 3.0 V6 CDTI where there proportionally fewer
So 100 people might report an issue with the 1.9 CDTI and just 3 people report an issue with the 3.0 V6 CDTI, but as a % of the total build the rate is about the same

Next are the faults compounded by a specific model
As an example the diesels are heavier, so expect higher wear on tyres, brakes, and suspension

People in favour of that engine will say it's the most common engine therefore more examples of it will go wrong, and that people only come on forums to report issues.

People not in that camp will say look through the engine fault sections and the number of posts about that engine seem much too high even given its popularity, and that the common faults that do occur aren't just on wear and tear items - manifolds, for example, should last the life of the engine, not need changing periodically.

Earlier models steve imho will give the most issues anything younger than August '07 is pretty safe as it will have the updated parts.

People say 'because it's common there are more faults reported' but look at the statistics properly. For every 100 1.9 150's sold look how many go wrong, then make that comparision to say a 2.0T.

No, the 1.9 for the amount made has a lot of faults, but as I say go for the later ones. Earlier ones seem to have more of the issues.
