Unhappy 1.9 cdti loss of power

    Hi Guys,

My 55 plate Vectra 1.9cdti 120 has suffered from a loss of power. It is almost like the turbo is not working. This has happened since a new thermostat was fitted and the EGR valve cleaned. I have no warning lights showing.
I know longer get the turbo kicking in when it should or the whistle it makes. The car is not using anymore fuel or smoking or sounds any different.

Any ideas? The car drives fine but doesnt pull like it should.

    Thanks for any help

    Mark

Funny I should be reading this as I have had the same, but all is ok now strangely.
First off around three weeks ago I removed the EGR to give it a clean, and also clean the inlet manifold part where the valve bolts onto. This bit can be clogged up as well. New gaskets fitted and reconnected. The EGR valve was freely working and looked pretty newish in there, no need for a complete strip down. Swirl valves and bar all seem to be connected and working. Checked all vacuum pipes all seem ok no splits. I then ran some EGR valve cleaner 3 through the inlet manifold for good measure.
Previous to all this I cleaned the boost sensor, oil and filter change and air filter change.

Now I went on my holidays and everything was working fine. Not the fastest from a standstill still got that lag but better for the cleanout and running nice and smooth. It wasn't all that bad before all the cleaning work but getting a bit sluggish all the same. So after a 500+ mile thrash up and down the motorway returning good mpg I was happy. Until Saturday last week the day after I returned from holiday, the Signum just wouldn't pick up from standstil, I really had to give some for it to pull away. Once on the move it really goes though.
Now today when I started it from cold it really is a different car, a real animal it's as if I had it remapped. I can't believe how different it is.
I was going to either run some more EGR cleaner through it or strip the EGR again.
Will see how it performs over the next few days.
    Strange one this!

Sorry for the essay but hope this helps your question.

And BTW the only thing that's changed is I stuck some more fuel in it, but from the same garage even using the same pump, so it can't be that.

It is still the same? Do you think if i get the engine diagnostics done that might help me find out whats wrong?

The small vacuum pipes, check for small splits, holes, especially on the stress points, bends etc.

Its a 120 so no need to worry about the swirls.

My money is on the EGR following the clean.

    Good point, well made.
If there are no warning lights, I would not have thought the ERG was very likely.

You won't get any warning lights if its sticking, or not quite sealing properly.
