Default Brake lights ( how many bulbs )

my computer is telling me , i have a brake light bulb problem .

when the brake is pressed .....

the left brake light is only half illuminated compare to the right brake light .

so am i right in thinking each brake light has a top and bottom bulb .

please see attached photo , i hope it helps describe what i mean .

    thanks for any replies .

The brake lights are the top ones. If one blows, the lower one takes over. So looks like your driver's side top bulb needs replacing, as the bottom one is lighting up

    It's a 21watt single filament bulb.

EDIT>> If the top one is still lit, with the lower one on the same side, it means the top one is *about* to blow

2 brake lights but the tail lights also light up when you brake.

The one that isnt working needs replaced.

looking from the top of the rear lights .

    1) clear indicator .

    2) skinny red brake light .

    3) fat red night light . ( tail light )

just been out to have a play with the lights and jam a pack of Huggies nappies on the brake peddle .

it appears i am missing the driver side skinny brake light

and the fatter red night light ( tail ) is compensating for the lack of a brake light .

Yes ! ......... what he and him said up above ...... l.o.l.

Thanks Guys For Confirmation ....... cheers

    Should be from the top.

    Indicators
    Tail & brake lights
Tail lights (which becomes a brake light should the original tail/brake light fail)
Fog light (drivers side only - UK)
    Reverse lights.

All bulbs are 21 watt single filament bulbs. The tail light runs at a reduced voltage until the brake pedal is pressed, then full voltage is applied to make it brighter. Clever stuff this canbus network.

If you've got clear indicator lenses then you need a coloured bulb with offset pins.

so under the indicator ... ( when working normally )

the skinny brake light AND the fatter tail light are BOTH on permanently ...

but when you brake ONLY the brake light gets brighter ?

    Is this correct ?

it's very clever stuff , having the tail lights take over as brake lights , good safety measure .

    Thanks

The tail lights shouldn't come on when you brake, unless you've already got your headlights switched on.
