    Default Weird wiring?

I've just come back into the Vectra fold -now owning a 2006 1.8VVTi model and I wanted to put my JVC KD-R311 stereo into it.

I bought the quadlock iso adaptor and put everything in - no power at all. After much faffing about I dug out an old quadlock connector (from a ford I believe) and used that to 'test' the wires. It seems that if I connect the red and yellow wires (stereo end) to the red wire (car end) the stereo works, but works completely independently of the ignition.

Is that normal? When the stereo was in my previous car (a vw) the iso harness worked ok, but it still worked independently of the ignition.

I wonder if its just an oddity with this stereo with canbus cars? My old Vec was a 2004 so it didn't have the canbus stereo which made it a lot easier!

I would trying searching for an adaptor for the steering controls but this has put me off if the bog standard adaptor doesn't work!

Yes it's normal in the Vec's there's no ignition feed to the radio in the later ones as it's controlled by the can-bus system.

Run the ignition wire from the radio down to the back of the cigarette lighter and it will work as you'd expect

Cheers - I'll have a look at that!

I guess the newer canbus cars just 'tell' the head units to switch themselves off?
