Default ECU bricked by main dealer

    Greetings all,

My 2005 3.0cdti Signum developed a fault , and i thought it was the dreaded SCV, so i thought i would bite the bullet and put it in my local dealers.
I have an extended warranty so no dramas about massive repair bills.

The dealers fault finded the car and suggested that a ECU up date would sort the problem, so i sad yeah go for it !!! and for £65 i thought i had got away lightly.

But during the update they managed to brick the ECU, they said they would pay the cost of a new ECU as it was working when i took the car in. New ECU arrives the try the update again, same thing happens.

They have spoken to VX how have said that the car may be " spiking "
The service engineer thinks it might be something to do with a auxiliary power cable which was fitted to the car before i bought it, that i now have my road angel connected to.

To me this sounds like they are clutching at straws.

Any opinions what could be causing the "spikes" ???

And for all of the time that you had the Road Angel connected to the cable it never trashed the ECU, it's only when they flash the ECU with the new map.

I'm inclined to think that it's something else. I'd be worried that it was that easy to screw up the ECU if it was all down to what they say.

Out of interest, where do you have the wiring for the auxiliary socket connecting to?

It goes to the wires behind the sterring column cover, and only powers up with ignition on.
They have sent the 2 bricked ECU's to a company in Yorkshire for re-programming.

The only other thing i can think of is the tow bar electrics, but that has the proper module fitted.

I have re-flashed my ECU many times (with BSR Remap box) without issue. Maybe their equipment is at fault?
