    Default gearbox in and flying

finally got the gearbox in and sorted, took pretty much the best part of the day doing it off axel stands lol, but its in and for peanuts tbf

full recon 3.94 close ratio f17 box, instead of the 4.19 wide ratio and tbf it feels a different car, with the induction kit and the close ratio gb keep it up above 4300rpm and it stays there and flys, tbh i would love now to stick it on the dyno because its definatly alot sharper than the bog standard 1.8 vvt sri

here are some pics of my old gearbox, it turned out that i had destroyed the mainshaft bearing, as you can see in the pics there are rollers everywhere and very silver oil lol

You won't get any extra BHP just by changing to the CR gearbox, all you're doing is accessing the power more often by keeping the RPM higher.

I know pal, I'm talking about 0-60 times, would be a little silly of me to think I could gain BHP from the engine by changing the gearbox lol.

Like I said with the cr box, once I'm up in the rev range 4300rpm and above where everything is open, it stays there and tbf it shifts

Fair enough, I was going on your mention of using a dyno.

Hahahaha ade have u got urs sorted now pal?
Jezzy sorry pal if I seemed abit sharp lol, it's just alot of people say the 1.8 vvt is like totally untunable etc. But with a full induction kit and twin powerflow exhaust it feels a hell of a lot more responsive and easy revving compared to standard, so surely combined with the cr box it will show on the dyno

Went to the garage and they are now waiting on a replacement box to come in for me. In a way it's a shame because the lower revs in the top gears let me get more out of the engine, but the problem with the cc is annoying me lol and I do want the job done properly after paying the money.

Yes nige me and the old man, took best part of the day but cost 300 quid with a recon box so laughing really, was abit tight to get the box out, subframe all loose but once we released the drop link there was just enough room to pull it out infront of the hub, lol what took most of the time was the fluid nipple for the clutch, the recon box didn't come with one so had tO swap it off mine and in my haste didn't engage it properly in place, bolted everything up, put the fluid hose on and it all spewd out the channel at the bottom of the box, 3 parts of an hour later using a pair of snips a screwdriver and a hammer we managed to do it, all in all not a bad job tho.

Ade, the box I have now the cruise controll works fine lol, it's pretty much the first thing I checked because of yours, it's like a different car lol, untill I wreck this one!

recently done the same to my 1.8 , your right it feels like a different car , 3rd - 4th - 5th much sharper . although at cruising at 70 it is at 300 rpm as opposed to 2.5k with the wr . worth it though
ps is the diff parts ok in yours ? as I might be interested ? pm please
