If you're still running a standard turbo then don't bother, the current intercooler is more than adequate

Intercoolers are all the same. They're what they fit on the VXR's so should be good for just about owt!

A stage one EDS remap will not increase boost much if any, so an intercooler change is not needed. As soon as you start to tune up the 1.9CDTI, gains can be seen from a big front mounted intercooler. If you go too big, you could damage the turbo though. You get a pressure drop across an intercooler, more if it is bigger, meaning more effort is needed by the turbo to maintain the required boost level.

So if you are sticking with the standard turbo and a remap/box, I would say put on a small front mounted intercooler, removing the standard intercooler and moving the heat exchanger back.

If you are going down the hybrid route, go for a bigger intercooler. My front mounted intercooler is much bigger than standard and has completely changed the shape of the power graph for the better.

The quoted Regal EDS remap will be stage one unless you ask for something different and the stage two on a standard turbo will be smokey. Stage three will destroy your standard turbo, so stage one is where I would be aiming for, with the TX or simular front mounted intercooler. You will need to remove the original intercooler to prevent the engine running hotter.
