Default Right guys, what do I do?

The 200,000 mile beast is getting a bit sick.

Possibly needs a new EGR, unless on its 5th clean this one can be brought back to life, needs a new crankshaft position sensor (may solve the bad starting), possibly new leak off pipes, maybe injectors (very loud ticking when cruising about 30) and then we come to the killer - the fuel pump. One of the error codes stored is for the camshaft position sensor which for some reason, is inside the fuel pump and can't be replaced, the whole pump has to be changed.

What's the best thing to do here? Buy a car for spares (there's a 2.2 DTi on Ebay at the moment for £500 in need of repair), replace all the duff bits with either new parts or from a spares car and hope it carries on going, or get it back to standard and sell it on before it dies completely? Something hasn't felt right about it for a while. I got Drinky to take it for a drive the other week because he used to have one and he said it was fine and went like stink, but still as much as I trust Chris' judgement I've got a gut feeling something isn't right. I hate the idea of getting rid because that car is my little beast and I love it to bits, just don't know what to do for the best.

    So guys, help!

No guarentee any spares car you buy will have good bits on lol, I'd be tempted to try and replace what you know needs doing but could end up costly, suppose it depends how the money situation is really

Put it this way, for a new EGR, crankshaft sensor and possibly a duff injector, I could buy the knackered car from Ebay for less money. The money situation isn't nice!

can you not just get the egr programmed out and blank it off? could be cheaper if any of the programing buffs on here could lend a hand... not sure on the other two but mine has a crankshaft position sensor error stored too and it doesnt seem to affect it too bad, how much is a single injector?

Would have to find someone that can map the 2.2 first, seems to be a problem in itself. Can't just turn them off. Mine is a right pain to start now, 30 seconds of cranking and it eventually coughs into life not at all firing on all cylinders until i've touched the accelerator with a biiiiiiiiig grey cloud out the back. Single injector is about £100, maybe a bit more. There's also a couple of CAN-BUS errors too but not sure what is causing them but it keeps coming back although for the minute, apart from the indicators keep clicking off early, that's the only problem I can think of. Maybe the CIM?

    Morning mate.

Depending on if I can get it to start this morning and if it does, how it runs, I may or may not be there. I'll text you in a bit, let you know how it goes.
