Default How hard can it be?

to get my now primer'd Faceift front v professionaly painted.

Spoke to a company yesterday afternoon who asked me to bring the V to them today before 12 pm. I would then collected it sometime next week for an outlay of 55 quid. Nice price I thought.

Got there only to find them closed. I asked around the other units and was told they never work on a saturday. Hmmmm.

So I start to look around my area for someone else. Ended up speaking to some eastern euro chaps who run a crash repeair shop.

Well I ended up surrounded by seven people (all rather large) pushing me to have them paint it. I don't get intimidated easily so was not a problem.

Then told me they needed the filler cap for a paint match even though I gave them the colour code from inside the car four times.

They also then said paint was 20 quid, lacquer was 10 and the spray job would be 40 quid. He then said that would be an 80 quid or so job. Hmmm odd adding up there.

I politely said no thank you and wandered back to my car dejected

I will try again next week but in the area where I work, High Wycombe.

Could anyone recommend someone who can add up knows how to paint and is open when they say they are?

    Thanks all

if its just the v grille and youve primered it yourself - why dont you have a go? its relativley easy to get a good finish its all about taking your time. just wet sand the primer coat til completely smooth, wipe clean with spirit/panel ipe, spray a light dust coat of colour let to flash off then do a nice coat wait a few more minutes then do another coat etc do about 3-4 coats or til youre hapy theres enough on there lol wait til its dried (24hrs will be best) then flat back using wet 1500 til it looks matt (dont push too hard as you could rub throgh the paint) then clean with wipe again. repeat the process with the laquers (dont be tempted to lay it on heavy) finally once nice and dry flat with wet 2000 grit paper and polish up with some compound, meguires any decent polish with slight cutting compound qualities really etc

    Thanks Northern Lad.

I wasn't going to attempt it myself but after your reply I think I have enough info to at least give this a go. Got the paint today and resanded the V a bit more for a better finish. Thought it was okay before but now im so glad I sanded it so its now ultra smooth. Its like a mirror almost, when wet.

I will post up a few pics when its done. Might be a while as I only have the weekends to do this.

    Thanks again for your information

no problem - glad to see youre having a go - thing is you can always do it again if youre not happy and it will still cost far less than what you were quoted!
