    confused Air Cond Vectra 2005

    Hi there
a week or so ago, i noticed that my blower doesnt work on position 1,2,3 - other 4 speeds are fine, except there seems to be a massive difference between 1 and 2, 3 is a draught and 4 is a no work

dont remember it being like this before - this is with the air con on and it is set to cool the main part of the car ie not the windscreen or footwells

i have read about getting at the resistor and the other fixes available but these seem to only concern the fan working on 4 and not the other 3.

    any ideas?

i Change resistor the problem is same.

    I've just lost 1 and 2 this evening, 3 and 4 work

I've seen a few threads on this, so will try to find them, including a fairly easy fix
Typical search fan 1 2 one two, and all of these are too short

However, none of these seem to match my problem, the usual symptom is the loss of 1, 2, and 3

Your issue sounds more like the thermal fuse :

Sadly mine sounds like the Resistor Pack itself has failed
When daylight arrives I will revisit the entire area, presumably a small amount of water is passing through

The resistor works by resisting the output through it to alter the speed.

Full speed is a direct connection and not through the resistor so if only full speed works its the resistor.

Not sure your description is correct, or its the way you've written it, as there is a difference between resistors (within the pack) and thermal fuse (which is external, but still attached to the pack)

There are at least three resistors in the pack, if any one of these fails then the other speed settings will work
In my case two of the resistors have failed, resuling in 1 and 2 not working but 3 works

However, there is a thermal fuse that covers all three
If this fails then all three (1, 2, and 3) will not work

Removing the glovebox was easy enough
Access to the resistor is poor
Initially I detached the resistor and found it would not come free
Therefore my advice is to unclip the black electrical connector first
The resistor will then fall free

On removal mine had simply corroded internally
No external water and the area was completely dry and clean

Refitting is the reverse, but locating the resistor requires a good push to click into place

Whilst I had the glovebox out I also removed its damper as this failed ealier in the week
On removal I found it was working so refitted it
    Strangely it didn't work
I removed it a second time and pumped it a few times, to which it gave a loud bang (similar to the noise when it failed), then refitted
Now it is solid, but better than falling like a cupboard door!
