    Angry 3rd Brake Light Rant!

Who, in the name of God, came up with the method of securing the 3rd brake light into the tailgate of Vectras!!

I have been thinking about changing my standard red one on my LS for a clear or smoked one, so had a bit of a nose today to see how easy it was to remove. Lets just say I will now NEED to change it, as it's just a pile of broken plastic and metal lying on my garage floor now.

I had read that there were some small clips secured it into place, and that it was a case of pushing these down with a small screwdriver or similar. Wasn't keen on that idea, for fear of wrecking the paintwork, so decided that I'd try and push it out from behind. But oh no, you can't even do that, because they've built a complete recess/doghouse around it in the tailgate.

After much wrestling, prising and coaxng, I basically lost the plot at it and ripped it out in bits. It was the only way it was going anywhere to be honest.

    What a ruddy joke!!

LoL. Yea sure theres a how2 involving drilling 2 holes, screwing in a screw at each end and pulling it out that way.
I was going to change mine, LS too, but I bought clear topped rear lights and that changed the look of the back end, the red 3rd brake light no longer looked wrong.

Thankfully I have befriended the very helpful woman behind the parts desk at my local dealer, so get a bit of discount. Even so though, they want about £35 for a clear/smoked replacement.

Thing is, usually when you destroy something like this while trying to remove it, you have a moment where you go "Ahhh, that's how I should have done it..." but to be honest I think I'd just end up doing the same again!

    Hi plasma.

I did loosen the trim from the inside of the tailgate and look in, but there is a metal enclosure on the inside of the tailgate that the light fits into, completely enclosing it, which stops you pushing it out. The only hole I could see in it was a small hole for the wiring loom to pop through.

From speaking to the parts person at the local dealer, I know that the tailgate did change part number, even before the facelift, so perhaps they changed the design a little?

Maybe I missed something then, I just loosened the trim and pulled it back for a quick look and a feel about.

Anyway, I wanted it out. It is out. So job done.

Just need a visit to the dealers next week to order a clear one now
