Default exhaust condition and heat shield

Mot picked up on problem with back boxes, corroded, yes one heat shield part not there and other back box rusted and loose so now ripped off,

anything you can paint on or any kind of protector to stop the back boxes rusting away?? or is it a wait til they die then replace?

prob not too cheap for the twin boxes??

you could use that kurust stuff to treat any rust, assuming the box is still sound now and not full of holes... Then paint it or get some cold zink spray or something like that

yeah the exhaust itself is in ok condition, heat shield like mentioned above....ripped off before it done someone an injury but the box is alright, just wondered if there was anything like underbody protector kind of stuff but for exhausts would just a high temp paint be ok you think?

then..... is this just a p;ointless task as being its an exhaust, will it be rotting from the inside out

Ive used some of screw fix's rust inhibiter to very good effect for a while now, same as branded only cheaper and you get more..

Actualy used motorcycle exhaust paint and even barbaque paint on exhausts!!!

BTW it was over £200 cheaper to get 2 stainless steel back boxes custom made than it was to replace with oem.

As mentioned previously, the securing points on the VX range for the heat shields is very poorly designed
The first thing I do when I take ownership is to unscrew each nut head, insert a large washer, and then reinsert the nut

All too often I follow other VX cars and see the heat shields hangin loose or even free, sitting on top of the exhaust or silencer
