Clicking Noise

I was wondering if anyone on this great site could help me with a clicking noise in my 2004 2.2 Direct Design Vectra? It happens when I turn the heating control from hot to cold, or the other way round. Does anyone know why this happens?

Sounds like a tooth or teeth have broken off the cog that moves the flap. Does the air from the vents change from hot to cold when you move the controls?

Thanks for your response.

Yes the heater works as it should, I can hear the motor turning and the flap moving etc. The air con blows nice and cold as it should as well. It only click about 3 times and then stops.

hi mine does the same i think the noise is from motor that controls the flap not 100% sure though

does it click towards the end of its trip as if maybe its already moved right over but motor runs behind a bit?? must be tooth related somewhere

Mine does,yes. It only clicks when the heater control is "fully" in the cold position. But If i move the control from the warm position to the notch just before the fully cold position it does not click.

Also, if the heater control is in the fully cold position before i turn the ignition on, it clicks........but if its in the hot position (or one notch up from the fully cold position) it doesnt click when the ignition is turned on.

Hope this makes sense!

I am sure it is tooth related, as mentioned by ChrisBilly. Odd thing is though, it only started doing this clicking thing after the aircon was regassed..........aircon had not been working at all since i got the car last october untill i got it regassed. Maybe thats just coincidence though.

what you describe is EXACTLY like mine. I am not sure what the cause is, but from the posts on here and what you say, it doesn't sound too serious. I am glad you replied with the same symptoms as I have.

Thanks Vectra 66, and pix for your replies. I am glad that it sounds quite common, but not doing any harm.
As I have just got the Vectra two weeks ago, don't be surprised if I ask a lot more questions.
