All remotes run 433 mhz i think. the remote is assigned to the car anyway. No 2 cars are the same..

If the battery on the handset is flat, it can result in the central locking reopening the car

However the car is designed to relock itself if the key is not within range after a specific time
I have tested this before, just to make sure

Sounds to me like the key is remaining within range, hence leaving the car open and unlocked

If you are locking the car manually, then remove the battery
The alarm will sound on unlocking the car, and is then cancelled on inserting the key into the ignition

Mine relocks itself if the drivers door isnt opened within a certain time, I can be stood right next to the car talking to someone and it locks, it has nothing to do with the range, what if you park in your garage and your keys are hung on the kitchen wall joining the garage?

Also if the fob battery dies all it does is stop the remote working, no way should it pop the locks, I think you need your fob looking at if that's the case m8inter..... You can then unlock the car manually and turn of the alarm by inserting the key in the ignition.
