Angry Vectra c 3.0 cdti ( loss of power )

    Ok hi to all......

I took my car for its MOT 2 weeks ago which gladley it passed

On the way home i noticed a slight difference in performance but nothing major. I then went out an hour later and had a car full, its then that i noticed that something was really wrong.

It would creep up to speed but the moment i put my foot down it would lose power and not want to go anywhere. The next day i went for a road test to try an get a feel for what was happening and i noticed that the turbo seems to be working correctly as i can hear it whiring up but no power. I have bin through the forum an tried most things that are recomended e.g (Cleaning EGR, Cleaning air intake manifold, blocking off EGR etc)

I took it to a mechanic on sat who plugged it into his laptop using opcom software, there were no fault codes only the ones that i had caused by messing an pulling off random plugs with the engine still running. In the end he put it down to the bosch air intake sensor next to the air filter box. Which in all honesty i dont think it is, he then ran off with my last £40.

Tonight i took the car out for a long run 50 mile all round trip, i have noticed that when maintaining a costant speed (70mph) its like the car has got its own heart beat, it struggles for 5 seconds like some kind of flutter then gets a little power for 1.5 seconds. It seems to do this for the whole journey. and this is all around 2000 revs.

If anyone has any answers i would be very greatful for your replies

    Kind regards
    Daniel

    SCV's

Basically the engine is asking for a certain pressure of fuel and the pump cant keep up.. If you pussyfoot the car whilst driving and not slam the accelerator down hard it'll drive ok....

Its a pump out to replace the suction control valves.... You'll need to verify this first though (due to it not being a cheap job and also I may be wrong)

It can also be a blocked fuel filter, contaminated fuel...don't jump to SCV's immediately. And it's not a pump out job That's what the Opel dealer that did mine said (not needed the job done in the end lol fool)

My car was presenting the same symptoms last year. Traced it down to water in diesel...
My old 3.0 had a blocked fuel filter, resulting in similar symptoms

In both cases fuel pressure went right down...demand was, let's say, 150mPa, actual pressure was 15mPa...

    Sadly I tend to agree

You can be gentle with the gas pedal, but it will get worse
You can also use diesel fuel pump cleaner (not injector cleaner)

Eventually the affected SCV will become totally blocked and then the engine will go into safe mode and shut down, but by that stage you will be lucky if you can drive at or above 30mph

Thanks for the replies its nice to know there are people out there willing to help.

i have tried injector cleaner in my tank and also filled up yesterday and added 2 stroke, which is mentioned in another post. problem is still there.

I will get new filter in the morning and change that, hopefully it may help

I have a friend at arnold clark who lets me have parts for trade, got quoted £25 for each SCV earlier today but that was a rough price because he couldnt get my reg to work on computer, Going to phone them back tomorrow with chassis no.

Injector cleaner and 2-stroke didn't help with my issue. I used a water remover additive, which helped. Try that, when the tank is empty and range is at 0...add that and drive for another 10-20miles. Fill up again and let's hope it works
