Angry 2 rants from the daily commute

For the second time this week I have been the one who has had to test the veccy ABS because some bozo in the left lane at a roundabout takes the right side exit, no signals. I don't think these people are even aware that they're in a car.

...and it's that time of year again - foglight frenzy . You may guess that I get a little upset if the person directly in front of me has their rear fog lights on - like I can't see them (I can't actually, just this big red haze). Maybe they don't realise that (a) it's annoying and (b) it increases the reaction time because the brake lights coming on is less noticable. It could just be an indicator of the state of their brain

...I wonder how many of these will still have their fog lights on tonight on the way home

Rant over. Calm happy thoughts now. Have a good day everyone.

I know what you mean about the rear foglights. On M1 this morning, can see quite a way ahead, they still think they need them on because they can see fog.

the weather in this country VERY rarely warrants the use of rear foglights. i think the only time i have every had to switch mine on was when visibility was close to nil due to the amount of spray.

but even when it is chucking it down, which is when you see most of these types of drivers, visibility is still adequate to see the car infront.

on the opposite side of the scale you people driving without any lights on at night?!?!? is it not really dark in the cabin!! i always flash them to let them know, sometimes they switch 'em on and say thanks, other times they don't know why this crazy fool is driving down the road with his full beams on!! i despair sometimes!!

You're right there Harry. I wonder if they have a special switch to go from no lights to full christmas tree (full beam, front and rear fogs, boot, glovebox and interior reading light)

EDIT: I forgot to add that this switch also engages a speed restrictor and automatically moves the drivers seat as far forward as possible

As far as Im aware, it says in the highway code that fog lights should not be used unless visibility is less than 100 metres......BTW no fog in Durham...sunny and warm....

I whole heartly agree. Traveling down the A1 yesterday, stuck behind a poxy Mini with a single fog in the middle blazing out. No amount of flashing & switching my front fogs on and off made her aware to switch it off. And the doughnuts that have front fogs and sidelights on, ohhhh grrrrr I wish I was copper sometimes!!!!

I would like to seriously question the need for fog lights at all on cars. I wonder if the number of accidents increase because brake lights couldn't be seen through the red dazzle, and how many are prevented due to the correct use. I think the statistics would be surprising

When my wife started driving and bought a car I said this the rear fog light switch, I don't think you will ever actually need to press it. I don't use mine, even though it only has one side so the brake light contrast can be seen more easily.

Driving discipline in this country generally is lousy. As well as the rear fog lights and dozy people who don't know the highway code when using roundabouts there are also:

    * Outside lane hogging as above
    * Lack of biker awareness (that's proper bikers of the fireblade/R1/T595 variety, as well as lycra clad ones who tend to make their presence felt by single digit hand signals....)
    * and my particular hate - Mr and Mrs Trilby Hatt in their ancient Honda Civic going at 38 MPH in all roads, including all 30MPH limits, busy schools, shopping centres etc.
    * And people who can't park straight
