Fuel Filter - Petrol

Just changed mine, used 2 small flat head screwdrivers to lever pipes off.

You MUST wear safety goggles/glasses or you will probably get a face full of petrol ( like I did ) even though I was warned of the danger A small amount of petrol will come out of pipes, probably an eggcup full although it seems more.

Fit the 2 clips that you bought with your filter ( best to buy 2 new ones - only cost pennies ) on to the pipes rather than the filter and then just push the pipes on to the filter pushing it fully on. Took about 30 minutes start to finish. Didn't need to de-pressurise fuel system as I hadn't touched car since last night.

Did you depressurise the system from within the engine bay first? And why was your face under the car?

lol, a garage I took mine too to do oil change & filter change last year, the bloke lifted the car up in the air, I was watching, the guy didnt depressurise the system first, the oil was draining away, then he moved onto the fuel filter, he was underneath looking straight up at the fuel filter, his face just inches away from it as he prised the pipe ends off, pffffffffffffffffffffssssssss, loads of petrol went in his face, down him and on the floor, I nearly wee wee'd myself... but then worried about something igniting the petrol, my car might go up, lol

Then why on earth are you lecturing about wearing goggles, when you've done the job in a ham fisted way? If you'd depressurised the system then no fuel would spray out of the fule filter lines, it would just drip out. Plus there's no need to have your face anywhere near the filter, you can do the job at arms length without actually getting under the car. Do the job the correct way and there's no need for safety equipment. Do it the wrong way and goggles won't be enough to stop yourself getting hurt.

Ouch, who said anything about lecturing ? There was I thinking I might be helping someone that's all. I mean that's what this site is about isn't it ?

I took advice from other posts on here that said if you leave car overnight it should be ok.

there's i value (like a tyre value) on the fuel rail just in front of the throttle body. Wrap a cloth around it to prevent spill onto the block and use a small screwdriver on the value pin. Whenever I've done mine (filter and pump) just a few mill bubble out and soak into the cloth. I'd think its best to do it even if the car hasn't been used for a bit, my pump failed last week and there was still a little pressure in the system when i removed the pump 2 days later.
