nope no downsides up to now and as for fuel consumption its not that bad i had a 323 bmw before this and im getting more mpg around town than that
only thing ive noticed is my gsi doesnt come with dimming mirrors or auto wipers but that could just be my model
only had it 3 week and a lamba sensor is playing up but i think thats my own fault cheap asda fuel and only do about 2 mile around town every day

More than likely the 7 year old centre section has had it and needs replaced
Have it checked for failed baffles
Failed baffles choke the cat, which in turn can affect the lambda sensor

Have you had to replace either of the rear silencers, or do they look like replacements?

no they look like orginals on the car no rattles no dodgy sound nothing seems to be blocked etc its just one of those things i hope,
ive started feeding her on optimax petrol going to change plugs bought denso ik20
since having it i was using cheap asda fuel never done that before but it was easy to go and fuel up their so odds on it was that should of put proper fuel in
its not bothering the car in fact its getting 1mpg more around town since the eml has come on its gone up to 18.5 and the car is still very fast 70 in 2nd and thats not red lining it

Great car and you get a lot for your money, I saw one on ebay yesterday that looked very nice. If you type in Irmscher you will see it.

I can't see any downside if your happy with the fuel!

The 2.8 is more expensive to buy.

The Gsi is a very good car, look for a good condition 03/53 plate as a lot of the extras such as xenon lights and auto wipers were dropped on the later models. Mine had heated half leather and rear sun blinds too. Get the best spec'd one you can find.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!
