    Vehicle : Vectra c

    Trim : SRI Estate

    Engine : 1.8 VVTI

    Year : 06

    Default 5w-30 and 5w-40 mix

I did an oil change tonight and used Shell Helix Ultra 5w-40 fully synthetic that I bought for a tenner at Home Bargains last year. I thought that the 5 stood for oil thickness and would be ok but now find that it is infact the 40 I have only previously used 5w-30, either Vx or Castrol dependant on what was cheaper at the time.

I will need to top up slightly as it was only a 4 ltr bottle. Will I be able to top up with castrol magnatec 5w-30 fully synthetic which passes Vx LL-a-025 spec ?

Both oils are ACEA A3 spec and fully synthetic.

Car is an 06 1.8 vvti

    Thanks

    Default

It won't make any difference as they are both synthetic
Top up with equal 5W40 oil, adding 5W30 won't make any difference but if this is all you have then do so
Next oil and filter change at the reduced interval of 10K miles, but it should last to 20K miles without any issue

If you only want to use GM-LL oil, then the current oil will need to be drained and replaced
However, as 2006 car it is probably out of warranty (unless covered by Network Q or a third party policy) so no further action is required
