Exclamation PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE READ THIS....gearbox shinanigans

Yeah at idle it vibrates and makes a chingy noise....COMPLETELY brittled off straight through

think i've identified the cause of my car (when accelerating) moving across to the right.....and me having to counter steer to the left just to go in a straight line!

The next issue is the really really really clunky gearbox and it is so difficult to get into gear.

When Plasma came round he thought it could be the clutch master cylinder which also sounds plausible as it could be losing pressure.

Thing is it drives fine first thing in the morning for about 10 miles or so (round town) then the gearbox is a b*****d to get into gear....that's why i always try and take the motorway to avoid gear changes..

    SO MY QUESTION...

Does this sound like a new gearbox jobby? if not what could this be?

    ALSO

If this is a gearbox jobby would I be able to fit a cdti 6 speed gearbox so as to improve fuel efficiency?

Thank you all for your help in answering this I'm not going to give up on this car yet...lol

TBH mate with the other probs you're having as well, you may be best considering a trade in... the price of around £700 is actually the cost of a cdti dmf swap... it could be more expensive for the dti

don't be offended, but you're likely to be offered between 1.5 & 2k tops... way up the costs of the other faults like investigating the lack of boost sensor wiring etc...

I have put over a grand into my motor this year in repair & service, car cost me 4k cash 2 years ago - 06 plate cdti xp elite, so for me it's worth spending the money... i did consider a trade in with 2k cash but could find the right motor at the time.

    hiya mate,

No not offended at all, I would rather someone be honest and give me some sort of idea than not reply at all! lol

If I'm being brutally honest, before this vectra I've always bought and had german cars. BMW's mainly and purchased this vectra because you see so many of them about (immediately I thought it would be a good car for me) I like the way it looks and I am slowly getting into property. - Could have bought a nice Beemer but went for the vectra as I thought it would be saving me money....so may just trade it in and get a 320d or even a merc c220....any thoughts on that one?

    thank you

Let me start off by saying no offence meant, but if I had to describe which sort of Vectra to avoid, because it would have had a hard life and be a money pit by now, it would always be ex-minicabs, ex-police cars and (if it was a smaller car) ex-driving school vehicles. Yours is the first of those, and although we've had this discussion before and you mentioned that it was only being sold because the taxi business was closing down, there's the inevitable sneaking suspicion that the faults your car has suffered are because it's been used for hire and reward. As such, it's going to be less reliable than a typical Vectra, and if you were to compare it with a BMW or Merc it has to be with ex-taxi models, rather than a privately owned German car.

So, if indeed it is time to cut your losses, put your money into something that's had an easier life. Yes, it will cost more to buy, but cost less to repair and give you grief and inconvenience less often.
