Default Does it have to be the Dealers ?

I have just been told by my local garage, not Vx, just a regular mechanic that I need a full Inlet Manifold fitting to my 1.9cdti (150) 2005 Vectra. The Swirl Flap linkage thingy is completely off. It's completely baffled me as to the extent of the job required for such a small problem, but anyway he says he cannot do it as he wouldnt be able to get the car started again and only the main dealership can do the work ?? I didnt ask any more about this as I was still reeling at the disapointment of losing near £1000. Vx gave me two quotes of just over £900 and then today in person of just over £1000. So I rang a local garage who claim to be 'Vx specialists', I took the car up for him to look at, now he said he 'could' the job, and cheaper, and didnt understand why the other garage said they couldnt do it, but this fella also asked me what the swirl linkage was and what it did ?? This didnt fill me with confidence and I'm now reluctant to give him my car to play with... Do the main dealers have to carry out this work or not ???

I'd be very grateful for any feedback from anyone in the know...

Thanks. I dont understand why he's said that then ?? He did mention something about the injector pump, and once it has been removed and replaced only Vx can get the car started again ?

    I'm soooo confused !!

    Show him the guide.

The pump pulley can be bolted to the block so the cambelt isnt disturbed too.

Depending when your cambelt needs doing its a good time to replace that too.

I'll speak to him again on Monday and see what he says, he's a decent fella who does some stuff for me for nothing so I'd prefer to give him the work (if he wants it) rather than line the pockets of dealers... I just dont understand why he thinks he cant touch it !!

I tend to agree with you on that one, but it may be they pass this type of work on to a local diesel specialist instead

Have a read of this 'how 2' I done the job (im in the pics) with the help of the cars owner 'ben', its a fiddly job but once you've done a few its ok, Do yourself one big favour! don't leave it to someone who hasn't done one before, it can be a 'long job' for the novice with dire consequences if the timing is lost!, if you need any further assistance pm me.

Don't know why you are quoting my reply and going off at a tangent

I too have taken my car to someone claiming to be a "VX specialist"
However, as soon as they open up the bonnet, "er, no, we can't do this one"

I try to avoid the dealer as a rule (£££££££, but thats just me). They are a bit like Dick Turpin IMO. However at least Dick Turpin wore a mask.........!
Do your home work via web sites like this one. Google for parts and costs. If the stealers is the cheaper option then go with them. If not then don't. A car is a car and can be repaired by any Good Garage. No matter what badge it has. Shop, ask about and then follow your head.
