confused F35 gear box on 2.2dti help

    Hi all,

I've got a bit of a problem on my 2002 2.2DTI gearbox and need your help please.

The oil is knackered and more than likley low as hell. I can't remove the side level bolt as it has been machined in at some point and the 8mm hex is now slightly rounded and I can't get it undone.

I've removed the plastic undertray but I can't locate the gearbox oil drain bolt. TIS2000 doesn't show or mention anything about a drain procedure or bolt. There must be a drain plug on the thing!

Does anyone know where and maybe a picture or sketch please?

I need to get this drained as I put in a 1ltr of GL4 gearbox oil as the technician who did my service (not VX) said it would take a litre ok and seems low. Now I've put this in the engine is not pulling too well, seems to have drag through the gear box and fuel consumption has gone up. My conclusion is that it's now over full and not breathing right and causing friction.

    Thanks

I would get a new drain plug first. As I belive it can be VERY tight to get out. So if you have to make a mess of the head, best to have a new one at hand I think. I intend to change the oil in mine. But I will get a new drain plug first though "just in case".

Sound advice. VX is in town so I'll pop in first thing. Thanks

Purchased both plugs from VX yesterday and then spent 4 hours trying to get the drain plug out with NO result this afternoon. So NOT HAPPY

I had the proper 8mm adapter from VX as well and a home made one from an allen key. Used heat, pen oil you name it. It will not budge.

Does anyone know what VX charge to change the gearbox oil and does anyone know of any national garage chains like 'National Tyres, Hi-Q' who will do the oil change as Kwik-Fit don't and I wouldn't let them anyway.

    Cheers

All sorted now. I called the local VX dealer near where I work at 08:00 this morning and got a rather disinterested service bloke. He spent 5 minutes waffling on about that it shouldnít need to be changed at all. He couldnít understand why I wanted it changed and kept going on about 107k miles is fine on original oil and that I should just leave it.

Anyway he said he would have to call me back with a price as it was a complicated job. Liar as I have TIS2000 which shows the labour time as 40 minutes!

Gave up waiting and called Local Halfords Auto Centre (old National Auto Centres). They said £40 all in inc VAT and we can do it today. I said ok and took it down. By 1pm it was done with the right grade of oil too. When I got back VX had called and left a message. It said they have concerns about the gearbox and they donít want to do the work on changing the oil until they have had the car in and checked it all over.

£180 to do a gearbox oil change at VX! I donít think so.
