    Default CDTI 120 Intake flap

    Hi there,

Ive recently experienced the EML on, Had my fault codes checked today by a friend of mine and it comes back with "Intake flap actuator" Ive heard of the 150 intake/swirl flaps malfunctioning but obviously the 120 cdti does not suffer from this fault, Ive left the bit of paper in my toolbox at work but im pretty sure this is the code, will verify tomorrow if i remember it!

The only thing i can think of is there is an intermittent internal fault in the throttle housing, as it only happens everynow and again. The car doesnt seem to loose any power at all (as much as a 120 has lol) when this happens, i just dont like looking at the light.

If anyone has any info i will be very gratefull!

    Thanks in advance, Jack

If you have engine code z19DTJ you have a 16V engine with 120 hp and flap. Take a look at the engine and see what you have. If oil cap its at the other side of the register its a 16 v and actually a cdti 150, downtuned to 120 hp.

As said m8, if it was the 8V, then you would not have it at all, as the flaps are only present on the secondary port runners.

The oil cap is a give away.

Yeah this is what makes me think that this fault code refers to the electronic throttle, as the 120 8v has no flaps.

Well there is a long story for me rebuilding the head . . . For no aparent reason

Why did you not just check the throttle body then?

A throttle body fault would normally say Throttle in it.

Oh it was about 20k ago i rebuilt the top end

Yeah there is that, but referring to an "intake flap" suggets towards the throttle surely?

I've had the throttle fault - common fault but really affects the earlier CDTI's 2004-05. On earlier ones the solder joints crack causing. Yours is slightly different inside, but have a look anyway. I took my throttle plate off as I was fed up with it shutting my engine down. I've soldered up the cracked solder joints though.

Intake suggest - yes one. But if you have taken the head apart you would have came across the drive actuator it is seemingly moaning about.
