How often do you change your engine oil?

Reading on other forums it's a bit of a mixed bag with some doing it at 3k which is a bit overkill, to some leaving it to 20k as described by Vauxhall long life.

If petrol and only doing short runs like 5k a year id change it every year without fail due to condensation, same again if you lived in colder climate id be doing it every 6 months.

As this is in warranty it's done every 12 months at about 12k miles, at next year when it's out it will be done at every 6-8k regardless and using vx own or millers.

At work our cummins engines get frequent changes these diesels do 500k this way.

Do you leave it and do it at what mileage?

Or regardless every 6 months or 12 mths?

Or just top it up between services?

The engine needs clean fresh oil or it dies..........

Old oil blocks turbo pipes and bearing failure so clean oil and it works.

10k for me and the odd occasion a bit earlier

between 8000 and 10 000 roughtly every 6 months, I like new oil going into winter and normaly change it once the worst of the weather is over.

Recently changed oil on a p reg polo (petrol) that could well have been in thier 5 years, it was like tar and took over an hour to drain. It also has a bit of a sludging issue but hope the fresh oil will clean that out a bit it will be getting another change once its done 500 miles ( well i hope so because thats why i did the oil change to teach the guy how to do it )

The Y30DT is designed for 20K miles
VX try to push this to 30K miles
On ECOFlex once the mileage passes 15K miles the interval drops dramatically

My average is just above 20K miles
Had my doubts about 30K miles, but 20K miles is far enough in a diesel engine using long life oil

In my previous Vectra B, I modified the specification from 10W40 semi-synthetic to 0W40 synthetic retaining the 10K miles

Apart from reducing the 20K miles to 10K miles, very little benefit otherwise

Every 6months, regardless of mileage done.

MOT due, Oil change.
Tax due, Oil change.

I probably only do around 10 - 12k miles a year.

Usually around August/September and then again in Feb/March.

Kinda tie'ing in with the Winter and summer months.

Depends on what mileage your putting down too i suppose.

Every 6-8K for me, it gets driven quite hard at times so i like to know its got clean oil in.

I'm sure vauxhall only intruduced the 20k miles service intervals to get the car popular with company vehicles and hire car companys, as far as i'm concerned 12k is the most i would do in any car without changing the oil.

It always worked out at 15k/18 months for me - that's when the service light comes on.
