Default Will a 6 speed box fit where a 5 speed was??

As above really, a few of you may have read my other thread to try and establish what was wrong with my car!
I had a friend who is a mechanic drop by quickly today and after literally 2 mins said to me he's 95% sure it's the box, says it sounds as if it's dropped a bearing , but without it out is unsure to the extent of the damage, but has advised me not to drive it as it could cause even more damage, which leads me onto the question,

I have a 2006 1.8 vvt Sri 5 speed, will a 6 speed box fit and work? If it fits will the ratio be all wrong for the power of the engine?

Or do I go recon box or get mine rebuilt?

Tbf it is a 2006 car with less than 60000 miles on the clock should I even be having this problem?

Just wondered if the fitment was the same on the 1.8 as the 2.0 turbo, 2.2 or even the 150 td, as I asked before though, would the ratio probally be all wrong off a turbo car even if it did fit?

just get a replacement box - 18 close ratio ,
I just replaced a18 WR wi a CR and it like a new car .
dont think you will get a 6 speed for your model so be better just replacing what you got

No 6 speed available on 1.8 Vec C, Im sure it was DaveDempsey that said it was the Insignia 1.8 before they offered a 6 speed box.
