Hi all as said above and while the mechanic was at it he cleaned the egr. He said it was a bit dirty. He also showed me the old tensioner and it was very worn so it's a good job I had it done now. It also feels much more responsive as well :-)

I would be concerned about a tensioner being worn
Recommendation is always to replace the cambelt and tensiors (as per the kit)

How long had that tensioner been on the car?
How did it compare to the other?

I got the belt kit and water pump and the labour cost me £160. M8internet the car has done nearly 89000 miles so I presume that is the original belt as there is nothing in the service book to say it's been done before. I don't know how it compares with the new one because I didn't see it

Not the new one, the other worn ones that were removed

The other two parts are fixed rollers
These normally exhibit more wear than the tensioner
This suggests the cambelt was too tight, so would need to see it to compare
The rollers should then show similar wear
By retaining all four components it can help in the event of premature cambelt failure

As above, I would have concern about wear on just the tensioner
If there was wear on the tensioner, I'd hate to see what state the cambelt was in

The mechanic that I used is a friend so he would have pointed out any major concerns so I'm not overly worried but thanks for pointing it out. I will mention it to him when I see him. Thanks for the advice m8internet :-)
