Default 2.8V6 bonnet release ....do it now !!

A word of warning to those of you with 2.8V6's and "loose bonnet releases"

GET THEM ADJUSTED BEFORE IT FAILS YOU !!

at the weekend i realized my bonnet release had failed ....... i had noticed last week on the levels checks that the handle came out a little further than normal and didn't seem to return correctly ...but thought no more of it until it was too late

having read the HOW2's and what others had accomplished i realized that there is little to no space for access from underneath on the 2.8v6's access is even more difficult if you have fitted an irmy grille

if indeed yours does fail you ...the only way to gain access to the release is indeed to remove the top grille then remove the rubber "splash shield" so you can access the manual release
the worst part is you can physically see the releaser handle and operate it via the gap bewteen the bonnet and grille ... but not operate the release like you need to

i did manage to get mine out without any damage ... I'm not going to say how on an open forum but if anyone does indeed get stuck with a facelift irmy grille I'll happily talk you through what I did BUT it will make your two veg disappear back up into your body and you will wince at the idea of having to do it to your pride and joy

Thanks for the nudge, what do you mean exactly by loose? Do you mean that the cable on the lever feels slack not taught when you pull it inside the footwell in the car?

Is this a problem just at the 2,8? Or every models?

every model will have the issue - BUT the smaller the lump the easier the access to get to the release handle ... for example preface 2.0 can be seen from underneath - but the 2.8 is so large the access space is minmal as the angle increases towards the top of the engine bay

Thanks for the info buddy... did notice that mine has some slack in it as said (moved out around 1cm without tension)...

Where did you get the new one from? How much and is it an easy replacement?

And you didn't feel ashamed at getting someone so much older than you to do your hard graft for you?
