    Default Car History Help/advise

    hi
Im thinking of buying an audi A4 tdi auto and wanting to do a detailed history check.
Is there a company that offerd a good histroy check eg for even slight insurance claim such as scuffed bumpers.
The car seems to be "too" mint. i can not find any damage at all or signs or a respray any where. its a 55 reg with 60k
    Many thanks

The only way to find out details of small damage claims would be to have a friend who has access to the claims and underwriting exchange - the database that insurers can use to check if you've declared all your past claims when you take out a new policy. Most people don't have such a friend, so the next best thing is a friend who can spot accident repairs, such as a bodyshop technician. Some repairs will be too good for even such a person to spot though, especially if they didn't involve painting any metal, e.g. they just had to paint and fit a new bumper. But, if these repairs are done properly then the car is no worse off for the repair having been done, so you don't really need to worry about whether such a repair has taken place or not.

For not-so-perfect repairs, things to look out for include a panel or door where the paint shade is different to the rest of the car (keeping in mind that even factory paint can fail to get plastics the same shade as the metal panels); doors that are reluctant to close fully; number plates that have the name of an accident repair centre in the small text at the bottom; uneven shut lines around one panel or all the panels on one side of the car; paint spray on rubber door seals; bumpers that look they've been poorly refitted (unless the bumper has to come off for bulb changes etc). Bare in mind that the "orange-peel" effect in paintwork that used to be a sign of poor spraying is now more common even with factory paint, with the switch to less toxic paint compounds.

the guy who bought my old skoda did a comprehensive check, it showed up as having a minor insurance claim against it, the value of the repair and which part of the car, he sent me the check too, but bought the car anyway as the repaired area looked so good. i was unaware of the said insureance repair, and i hpi'd the car when i bought it.
im sorry i dont know what company he used for his checks butit is posible

****edit***** i've just asked a car dealer friend on facebook, some hpi's show a Cat X which means the car has been subject to insurance claim but not written off

Cat-X is for cars sold as lightly damaged salvage, not for cars where your bumper gets hit in Tescos and your insurer repairs it for you.
