Default Gearbox oil and inner cv boot empty

    Evening all.

Couple of bits being done this eve.

Should the inner cv boot be packed with grease and clipped back up.

Not entirely sure. Just noticed it today.

Also, can someone tell me exactly where the plug is to topup the gearbox oil on my GTS. Had a look but not sure if its under battery cover, as not sure where to look. Would assume i have the F17 gearbox.. can this be filled up without taking loads of stuff off.

    Thanks in advance

Yes should have grease in boot, best to pack it the best you can and tie wrap it back on.

Pack as much cv grease as you can, But if its been like that for a while I would clean everything first just to make sure there's no grit and crap inside the cv joint itself...Tosh

When the boot is off ie slide it over the drive shaft you will see the inner cv joint, you can clean this with brake cleaner as it's a bearing.

Clean off any road grime or salts and re pack with high melting point grease.

Thats get a dollop in your hand and press it into the cv joint lots of it then refit the boot and away you go.

to do them properly the drive shafts have to be removed from the vehicle , which means youll lose all gearbox oil

so £70 for 2 isnt bad
