Flowers on roundabouts!!!

Pardon me for moaning, but with the country in the state that it's in, the job cuts in local authority and services being cutback / removed, how the hell can they justify planting flowers on roundabouts?!?!? taking a big van with two men a full day to carry this out, followed by bi-weekly watering from a council water tanker....

Councils should do as they have done on a couple of roundabouts near to me, throw a few dozen handfulls of poppy seeds and let nature do the rest !

You should come down here chewy , the council go berserk planting shrubs and flowers in the middle of the round about,s to extent that you can not see whats coming around them , on one roundabout in town there is usually an accident at least once a day because of the foliage

God aye but then you'd get nothing done. Rock and Hard place though isn't it, the balance between doing it an keeping people in employment. Where would they stop? Stop cutting the grass on common land and council owned football parks etc..
God I remember years gone by where councils were struggling to spend their budgets, back then if they didnt spend it they lost it and lost the same amount for the following year too. You used to see a rash of new road signs popping up February going into March just so they could spend the money on something.
Did you see the Police authority that invoked the 30 year rule lately forcing officers with more than 30 years service to retire whether they were happy about it or not? They then asked them to come back on a purely voluntary basis........... "Sorry we made you unemployed, fancy coming back to work for free?"

I was given a written warning for saving the dept £20k when I worked for the authority... that was when you were forced to spend it.

They cut whats important and splash out on looks far too often

If flowers are all you have to moan about then think yourself lucky. Just remember our forces coming home in coffins through Wootton Bassett, people with terminal illness refused treatment.......... The list could go on and on.

thats my point BigSig - I made my choice NOT to join the army, yes it's sad when one of our boys falls, but it's not paintballing, they know what they get signed up for. The money wasted on flowers would be better spent on equipping these boys better. Better spent on hospital funding etc. Thats what I expect my taxes to fund,.. not pretty roundabounts
