    Default CD70 Question

A few questions for those of you with the CD70 sat nav system

    1) Does it show a compass display?
    2) Can you enter postcodes?
    3) Can you update/add POI's?
    4) Is it any good ?

    Thanks

    Andy

Used a tomtom a lot before getting my vec, i prefer the vec! it's always there (so if you unexpectedly get lost you are ok) the roundabout instructions are better, it dips your music volume for announcements, the detailed junction view is good, it prompts to plan a route when you're low on fuel and signal reception seems much better than tomtom. even input is better in a way than touchscreen, it's certainly less distracting. oh, and it gets the live traffic info (handy for me as i use the A14, or not, depending on what it's like).

Tomtom is handy for other things, like marking the position of your car as a favourite if you're in an unfamiliar city, plotting walking routes, and some more details about speed, arrival time, travel time, distance etc (which the CD70 may well be able to show you, not played much with it yet)

... and you have the buttons for it on the steering wheel

Arrival time, travel time and distance is shown in the info screen
Toggle between arrival/travel time with the settings

Although the same system as in my old Ren-no, you have to hit "info" to find the eta and the TMC doesn't show problems at a glance in the display foot. However, the recalculation is lightning fast when you ignore it. I only used an older tom tom and to be honest prefer the built in system. To be able to operate everything from the steering wheel button is first class.

Same bl**dy patronising voice though - makes me feel at home, just like having the trouble and strife giving me directions ("where do we turn off" " Junction 28" " where is that?" " half a mile back!")

Partial post code search was only available on map CDs up until approx 2010. The TMC function also disappeared at around the same time.

If you want both features, then don't get a newer map CD than 2010.

That'll be why then - top left is the sat nav aerial plug. Has it never worked or just stopped working?
