    Default Petrol prices

when over in Fuerteventura on Holiday last week, I had the pleasure of buying petrol at 0.74 of a euro, about 55p per litre.

How can they do it on a small island and we can't???

I little naive me thinks to say that.

The government gets revenue by taxing the population and spends that revenue on the things it thinks is important and gets elected on its manifesto. The tax split of how it obtains the revenue is up to them, but they are going to get the same amount anyway. Therefore reducing tax on fuel will simply increase the burden elsewhere. There is clearly also an environmental concern and higher price will mean less fuel usage, and therefore less impact to environment.

The only way to reduce tax is to either cut inefficiencies within Government, or to cut services.

We all moan about reduction in services, but we don't want to pay for it. That's the bottom line

The bottom line is that this corrupt lot have massively increased taxes and there has been absolutely no improvement in any services.

Not only do they put a massive tax on fuel, they then charge VAT on the tax!!

we already pay for it...that's what is so annoying. the government collects all this tax money and just a small percentage of it is seen as any sort of improvement in services.

our roads are some of the worst in europe and public transport is a joke. all the money that is collected from congestion zone etc is going somewhere, but definitely is not benefiting the population.

Then we need to use our powers as a democratic population and stand up to this by voting the gov out of power.

And I agree with most of what has been said.

    Cut waste first.

Agree with Harry, where DOES the congestion charge money go? Also they are about to increase the area covered by it, so more revenue.....whats that going to pay for?
