    Default Question about tyres.

    Hi,

I've been offered some alloys and the tyre size on them are 205/55/R16 but ive got two new tyres on my steels at the moment and there size 215/55/R16 would it make much difference if i mixed the tyre size or is that a big no no?

Just woundered coz i dont really wanna waste buying the new tyres in the past plus there only three good tyres on the alloys so just wanted to swap one over really.

    Cheers Alan

Have a look here TYRE SIZE CALCULATOR for a comparison in size and effect on speedo.

However mixing 215's and 205's of the same profile is not a good idea - possibly illegal - so i wouldn't

Obviously there is another issue that its not an OEM size and therfore in event of accident your insurance company could get 'ar5ey'

the 205 size is from the vec B, you will need to swap them all over to 215

As long as as each axle had the same tyres on it then you'll be fine i.e 215's on the back and 205's on the front.

You can't have one 205 on one side of the axle and a 215 on the other side of the same axle

205/55/16's were standard fit on facelift Vectras fitted with steel wheels, prefacelifts had 215/55/16's. I don't believe there would be a problem mixing 205's with 215's as long as you dont use both sizes on the same axle.

As said by some others, im pretty certain the standard Vec-B 16" tyre size is 205/55/16.

My friends and family have some standard Vec-C and the steelies and standard alloys all have 215's.

Again, same on each axle and you should be OK.

If in doubt, just put your 2 good 215's onto the new wheels?

Oh, pics when done dont forget.

    Bye bye Vec B

thats fine then, there new tyres on my steelsat the moment and are on the back anyway so all ill do is swap them over on to the alloys and leave them on the back and put two of the 205 on the front it was only because three of the four alloys have very good tyres on and didnt want to waste them.

And ill get pics up as soon as ive done them there only standard alloys but better than steels i guess lol

I have 2 cars with 205/55/16's, if you wanted to sell them on I "may" be interested.

Send me a PM if you want to sell them, with pics, tread and price.

    Thanks and good luck.
