Default Vectra CDTI 150...driving me crazy

    Hi,

For the last few weeks Ive noticed a misfire between 1-2k RPM. I decided to change the diesel filter and bought a bottle of Forte diesel treatment. The car was still misfiring so I decided to take to my local garage for it to be plugged into the diagnostic machine, due to no spanner light or engine management light being on no fault codes were registered.

Earlier this week the car/spanner light came on for around 2minutes on restart the engine management light was on and stayed on, the car was still misfiring but under load still pulled fine even with the eml on.

    Ive since returned to the garage and had it plugged in again the following codes were registered ;

P0100 - Intake air temperature sensor circuit high input
P0100 - Intake air temperature sensor circuit malfunction
P0400 - Exhaust gas recirculation insufficient flow detected

After reading this forum for a few hours I decided to remove the EGR valve and have a go at cleaning it. I split the egr into two pieces and used carb cleaner to clean the spring. I didnt have the confidence to drill the 3mm hole in the top and tap out the spring in the electrical half of the EGR I did however notice that the spring that sticks out of this part was flush, is this how they should be ?

I also removed the boost sensor and gave that a good clean (was very sooty)

Ive changed the air filter and checked all pipes and connections.

Whilst doing this Ive noticed that to the immediate left of the EGR was a little bit of oil and around the swirl valve rod there was a lot of oil/gunk build up.

Ive got into the car this morning and to my surprise the engine management light has gone out but the car is still misfiring and doesn't have any guts until the turbo kicks in, if you slam your foot to the floor it does nothing until the turbo spins.

Ive booked the car in at Vauxhall on Saturday for them to use there diagnostic machine Im hoping its a little more accurate as to to faults, im a little worried that because the EML has gone out no faults will be registered.

Anyone have any ideas as to the problems Ive got? any help/guidance would be appreciated. I apologise for the long winded post.

    Cheers in advance.

Check your MAF Values. Must be between ~49 kg/h with EGR shut and half of that value with EGR open.

is the rod still on your swirl valves, if so it does sound like the egr, the bit that sticks out should move freely in and out with a push.

Thanks for the replys Ill check the MAF values on saturday when its plugged in again.

With regards the EGR Ive uploaded a picture to show a reference of which half of the egr I mean.

Should this stay sticking out or come out when split from the other half ?

The rod seems to be in place it does have play in it side to side and up and down, I presume this is normal ?

it should be sticking out, but you should be able to press it in and it should then come back out and so on....

You need to split the elec half of the egr solenoid for sure its 'stuck', drill hole, use a GOOD straight punch to knock out inners, place it over a couple of pieces of wood a hit 'firmly' with a lump hammer!, remove parts & note the order they come out in, clean with carb cleaner or similar & if poss spray well with elec contact spray or wd 40 if not, DONT GREASE.

    UPDATE

had the car plugged in the tech 2 which showed same faults p0100 & p0400 the guy tested the egr valve which showed to be indeed sticking. He recommended I clean the solenoid part of the egr. Ive done that this morning and this seems to have cured the problem of bottom end power which im pleased about. Unfortunately the misfire is now worse than ever, when driving in any gear when you hit 2k RPM the car misfires (similar to when you're running out of fuel) it really jolts the car.

Im now at a loss as to what to do, change the MAF? I just have a nagging doubt that this wont cure the problem? Is there something that opens around 2k RPM, possibly turbo ?

    HELP please

Temprarily blank the EGR valve OR Clean thoroughly (make sure it seal when closed) disconnect it and go for a drive if it doens't do the misfire then the valve was at fault. I had a misfire at 2,000rpm and 2,750rpm occassionally, I then blanked the EGR valve off and have never had these misfires since.

Out of interest what colour is your injector plugs?
