Question Is this normal for the mileage?

I purchased my Veccy 2002 2.2DTI Elegance back in March this year on what I thought was a good price £2095 with 104011 miles on the clock.

It had a FSH, full MOT, 6 months TAX and an excellent interior except for the drivers seat belt not winding back in very well. The body work was a bit tired with some light scratches, very minor trolley dent on the near side wing. The driverís door window and mirror switch panel was a bit sticky and the passenger one didnít work at all. These were a quick fix and just needed to be removed and cleaned.

Within a week of the purchase I started to get LHM on the dash when under load going up hills or on cruise and then the clutch went! I was lucky as I had a warranty on the car and the dealer replaced the clutch and DMF FOC.

And now the list of things that have needed to be replaced due age or problems in the past 3 months Ė bit long so sorry for that. Engine work was due to high mileage and being all coked up and that the engine was sluggish and giving me LHM every day.

    Front discs and pads
    Front drop links
RH020 Intercooler to manifold pipe - massive split
    Full engine de-coke and flush
    Full filters and oil change
    Inlet manifold strip and de-coke
    Boost sensor change
    Two front tyres
    Rear Banana bars
    Driverís seat belt
    Two headlamp bulbs
    Two rear tyres
Turbo waste gate actuator adjusted due to over boost
    Drivers door hinge/toggle bar replaced
Light levelling unit seized Ė strip clean all ok
    Headlamp alignment
    Overhead alarm sensor replaced
Gearbox oil change - this was nasty!

Iím still not convinced that the engine is running right as its the 130Bhp model and seems sluggish and under powered. My 1.9 TDI Bluemotion Golf went like stink compared to this beast. Seem to have turbo lag up to 2.5k and then full boost right up to about 3.7k. Fuel economy seems ok at 47 Mpg average on the daily 60 mile trip to and from work and Iíll occasionally get 53 on the run. Good, bad, indifferent?

Now for the bits I have done to tidy it all up and make it look a lot better than the tired old thing it was when I bought it.

    Body coloured side skirts
Body coloured lower rear bumper valance
Replaced interior wood effect trim with body coloured ones
Replaced CD2006 with 7Ē touch screen SATNAV/DVD/MP3 with full S/W control professionally fitted
Stainless oval exhaust Ė old one was so rotten I pushed my fingers through the casing!
    SRI smoked rear light clusters
    Tow bar removal
Full rear blinds (same as Innes)

So now for the big question. With what I paid for the car to start with and the work done / parts replaced due to problems do we think it was a good price overall and is the Mpg ok for its mileage etc?

    Thanks all.

Most of what you've listed is standard wear and tear mate.

    Front discs and pads
    Front drop links
    Full filters and oil change
    Two front tyres
    Rear Banana bars
    Driver’s seat belt
    Two headlamp bulbs
    Two rear tyres
    Drivers door hinge/toggle bar replaced
Light levelling unit seized – strip clean all ok
    Headlamp alignment
Gearbox oil change - this was nasty!

The banana arms would have destroyed the rear tyres, as I've found out recently!

As for the car being sluggish, I don't find mine the quickest car I've driven, and mine's a 2.2 DTi SRi with 97k on it. My missus's 1.9CDTi SRi 150 will blow it away and day. Although mine will comfortably take off from a standing start, and is in no way "sluggish". Before this, I had a 1.9 TDi Bora, and that seems quicker too.

47mpg seems great. I'm getting about the same, increased to about 50-55 on a run.

Personally I think you got a good deal. I paid £2800 for mine back in November last year. It had 85k on the clock, it's the 2.2 DTi SRi 130. Mine only had 1 month tax!! But 11 months MOT I've change on mine - all four springs, rear banana's, rear tyres, wheel alignment done, headlight and sidelight bulbs, and given her a full service at 90k. Now showing nearly 97k and has never missed a beat once. I've the full leather interior, and it's in showroom condition. The bodywork is also in unmarked showroom condition too. As are the factory wheels

    Hey Tony,

Doesn't seems that bad a deal then. I was kinda thinking that for the mileage most of these parts would have needed to be changed. To be quite honest, I'm pleased with what I've paid and that with all this work it should go on for many years.

    Vehicle : Facelift Insignia/Corsa D

    Trim : LE/VXR

    Engine : 2.0 cdti/1.6 Turbo

    Year : 13/07

    Default

TBH since I bought mine at 84k i've

    Replaced the UCA's
    Changed all of the springs
    Had 4 new tyres
    Replaced the track rod ends
    Replaced front drop links
Replaced front and rear arb bushes
    1 front wheel bearing
    1 rear wheel bearing
    Changed the aux belt tensioner
Cleaned the boost sensor and egr every 6 months
Adjusted the actuator on the turbo
    Serviced it every year

The car is now on 104k and is needing a new clutch due to slippage (the tuning box doesn't help though)

I paid 3600 in October 2008 so the price was about right that you paid

THB I think the mileage is genuine as the service history all ties up ok and last time it went into VX on Tech2 they didn't mention anything but then again they prob didn't think to check it.
