    Default engine breather valve (?)

Hi, my Signum CDTI 150's just been in to get serviced and the mechanic who did it said he noticed at the back of the engine there was a crack and an oil bleed where some of the breather pipes intersect - he called it the 'engine breather valve'.

Google hasn't been my friend on that one and I'm really just after being a bit more informed before I speak to him again tomorrow... Is it obvious from my ludicrously bad description above what part number we might be talking about?! Or if anyone's able to post a parts diagram I can print out that would probably be a big help... I expect I'm going to need to fetch something from the main dealer.

    Cheers

If it's what I think it is , I wouldn't worry, mine has it too. I say this as I am assuming you are talking about the oil seperator which direct oil to the breather in the intake. It's a cylinder with pipes going into the top of it and sits on rhe left side of the engine (if you are standing at the front if the car looking at the engine with the vanity cover off) at the back of the engine.

it's more commonly known as a ccv (crank case ventilation) the system does not work as well as it should, but it isn't just VX is every marque tbh...

as above i wouldn't worry about it too much... some folk are actually venting to atmos which is an mot fail on it's own.

ps, as a foot note the breather system venting to atmos doesn't come into the mot as i asked several mot stations & shown the vehicle to them with no problems.
