Default Never will I say the Vectra is a nightmare to work on again!

I've done a few jobs on the Vec that have been a complete pain the arse being the UCA's and arb bushes but believe me there are worse cars.

My Dad has a 2005 Kia Sportage 2.0CRDI which has terminal DMF rattling. So after a trip to Kia for a clutch kit and DMF (650 quid which isn't bad I thought) we decided it would make sense to change the timing belt and give the car a bit of an overhaul.

Looking throught the service manual for it the dmf replacement will be just about as bad as the Vec in that the front subframe has to come out but I didn't expect to see this when reading about the timing belt replacement.

"Timing belt replacement is to be carried out with the engine removed from the vehicle" WTF

So the next time when you're swearing at your Vec or Signum with blood running from your knuckles, just remember...you could have bought a Kia

Info was taken from genuine Hyundai/Kia service manuals. As the gearbox will be off for the DMF replacement we'll simply shift the engine accross but I was making the point, at no point in a VX service manual do they say to remove an engine for a timing belt/chain replacement

I remember Ed China removing the lotus esprit engine to do the belt as it made life easier

Hey John,, Never thought a Kia would be compared to a Lotus Esprit, the rule with that bad boy, two jobs or more on the drive train and it is engine out!

You could just cut the original timing belt and remove, then cut the new one and when you have placed it round the cam pulley, tensioners and crank shaft pulley, just tigerseal it together. Timing belt changed and no removal of engine.
    Insignia VX-Line Nav CDTI 170.

    Dont believe all you read.

It can be done with the engine in the car but still takes about 6 hours

Gawd lighten up people. I'm not doubting it can be done in the car but for them to say remove the engine it must be a pain to do.

And the subframe needs to be dropped on a dti to remove the gearbox. Not saying it has to come off completly but it has to be dropped.
