Yeah, it's not working. The turbo should be kicking hard by 2000rpm, you could have a problem with one of the following:

    1) EGR
    2) Swirl valves
    3) sticking VNT vanes
    4) Turbo actuator vacuum line leak

EGR is most likely but the first two would usually show themselves with smoking and a ECU light. Number four could be checked in part using your mouth and tongue. Disconnect the pipe from the solenoid and use your mouth the vacuum the line. Then block the line with your tongue and see if it holds the vacuum. if the solenoid is bust though, this would not identify that.

    right ok.

i cleaned the EGR valve last week, so cant be build up of soot.and valve was moving freely in it, is there a way to test the solenoid ?

I replaced one of the tubes going to the white vac by the radiator, didnt seem to be any holes in the old one, havent changed the one in a u shape yet, but again that dont seem to have any faults with it.

what are the vnt vains ??

is there a way of testing the swirl valves ?

    cheers

    bit of an update,

Decided to check swirl valve actuator bar and its came off all the ( i presume) swirl valves !!

Took it out and looks like the cup had snapped off the 3rd valve which i presume is the drive one.

rotated the bar 180 degrees so that the damaged cup is driving a slave one for now and the drive one has a fixed cup on it.

Will this be ok till i get time to try and do the repair thats floating around the forum ??

    Cheers

Default can your swirl valve bar be fitted either way ?

have tonight noticed that the bar on the swirl valves is off all the valves !!

The third cup has snapped of so will not sit on the drive valve.

I have rotated the bar 180 degrees so that the broken cup is now sitting on valve 2.

Will this run as it should or is there slight difference in the bar so that it can only fit one way ??

    Cheers

The valve only comes off when one or more of the valves has jammed in place. If they are jammed open, it is not such an issue. If any are jammed closed and you can't more it to the open possition, you will need to replace the inlet manifold (a cool grand at VX).

If you have no ECU light on, then your solenoid must still be fine. Get someone else to sit in the car and turn the key to the ignition point, while you look down at tops of the valves. The solenoid will move to the closed possition when you turn on the ignition. If you are unsure, start the car and rev it to about 3000rpm a couple of times slowly. The solenoid will move from closed possition at low revs to open at high revs.

Once you are sure which possition is fully open (over to the left I believe from memory), check if you can move all the un actuated valves to that possition. If you can, move them there and then glue them in possition. This will not noticably effect the running of the car. It would in theory make it slightly less efficient at low revs but not that you will notice and want to spend £1000 on.
