Interesting, whilst i am new to the forum and only just learning...... how is this possible?

I thought CATS reduced soot particles, do you have dpf also?

The cat is designed to turn harmful exhaust gasses like carbon monoxide into less noxious ones like carbon dioxide, if I remember my chemistry lessons at school right I think a catalyst speeds up or stimulates the chemical reaction in the exhaust fumes so a catalytic converter isn't supposed to reduce smoke it just changes what is in it

    Thanks for the response, UncleMelon.

I haven't removed my cat and don't really intend to unless it falls to pieces. Do diesels have a CO reading for the MOT, or is it just a smoke test?

Diesels are only subject to a smoke test

are quite unaccurate if u have an exhaust that is larger than normal as the rod is quite thin i had a 307 dturbo and smoke test was 0.00 due to an aftermarket stainless steel exhaust

if vosa pulled you over they do slightly different tests so you might get unstuck slightly if they fancied testing your car
