    Unhappy Dirty, musty smell!!

I have a nasty musty smell coming through the vents when heating control is set to 'cold'.

It doesn't do it when warm is on air OR when the AIRCON is on.

I have just changed the Pollen filter, but that hasn't made any difference.

As I said, Aircon works fine, lovely and cold and no smell.

I did try putting one of those aerosol cleaners through the system, but still no change.

    Any ideas??

yes. it is bacteria build up probably. take pollen filter out, set heater fan on speed three (one short of max), put air con on, set to cold, adjust to vent to floor and spray short bursts of anti bacterial spray like dettol for a good minute or two into the hole where the pollen filter covers i.e. into heater fan area. Cycle to hot and let it run for a few minutes.
Put the pollen filter back in, repeat this two or three times over the coming weeks.
I bet the smell reduces. I would also recommend a charcoal pollen filter and always switch aircon off about 2 minutes prior to end of journey, less likely to get any water lying around that can go stale.
Works for me, no more smells for 2 years now.

I get one of these every year and don't have any issues with air-con smells. I change the pollen filter afterwards too so it's all cleaned out at the same time.

Quite a few companies make them and you can get them from a variety of places, most of whom will be cheaper than Halfords. I usually get mine from an auto factor or Tesco.
