Exclamation Code reader for a Vectra B?.

My son has a vectra B which is showing the EML constantly.I've got an OBD II code reader, but when I try to get it to read any code on his car,it just keeps saying it can't connect etc.Can anyone advise me of a compatible type that will do the job?. FELIXX.

I've got the U480 type, but it doesn't want to talk to the veccy B .Regarding the paper clip and pedal tests, guess what?,his odometer bulb has blown so you can't see the mileage!!.(Thank's for the thought though anyway folks).FELIXX.

Strange you should say that about it not being able to read the "ecu" I had the same with our old Vectra B. But I could read the codes with the paperclip test though.

Alas no odometer light so can't see the mileage. Thanks to everyone for their input though.I've decided to do a full service from scratch, and clean and eliminate whatever is possible to eliminate as I go along. Then,if that doesn't work it's plan B...........set fire to it!!.FELIXX.
