    Default 1.3CDTI advice?

has anyone owned or dealt with the 1.3CDTi engine, what is there to look for, common faults etc,
also what is this engine like in a astra estate?
the Mrs Corsa 1.4 is no longer big enough for her needs, and there is a 2008 Astra estate 1.3Cdti available locally at a good price. its done 98000 miles, hence the low price.
what kind of mileage is expected out of the 1.3 CDTI trouble free.

to me a 1.3 diesel is too small a engine to be good on an astra estate. so just trying to gather peoples thoughts on this engine and car combination

My wife has a 1.3 CDTi Energy Corsa on a 54 reg - owned since 6 months / 800 miles old and has now done 104000 miles relatively problem free.

We have serviced every 20k as per the book and replaced in its lifetime:

Wiper motor and linkages - common fault as not sealed - they seize
Steering rack - rattled like hell
    Front springs as one broke

That's about it other than normal service items.

Average I reckon 400 miles to a tank too which I don't think is too bad.

thanks guys, Tom i imagine it to cope better with a little Corsa than in a heavy astra estate,
i'm struggling to find user reviews etc through google, have discovered it was only in base specs on astra, and 100bhp, so a decent level of power, but a 6 speed gear box, so sounds like be changing down every time you come to a small incline,

I think the 1.3 pushing 100BHP would be a good little Astra - the 1.3 is a fairly punchy engine in the corsa and I think it is a great combo but as you say I have only seen low spec / model astra with this engine.

just a thought knowing the 1.9 is a Fiat lump,
is the 1.3 also a fiat lump, aka 1.3 multijet, aka 1.3 durateq tdci in the new ford ka?
my grandad has 1.3 multijet doblo, i've never encountered something so slow and hesitant at pulling away.

It's a Fiat lump (chain-driven) used by Fiat and Alfa Romeo, and in the Ford Ka (which uses the Fiat500 platform). Two strengths (75/90bhp) on Vauxhalls. After some initial problems on release, is believed to reliable, and pulls better than a 1.4 petrol.

I currently have a Astra Estate 1.3 CDTI as a company car, had it from new and its used as a workhorse, Its a 07 model and it has 85,000 miles on the clock. Nothing has gone wrong with it! It gets abused and is often fully laiden.

It is a little underpowerd when you fill them up with tools etc, and ladders on roof, BUT when empty they are quite nippy! they are also quite a smooth engine.

I would buy one for the mrs!
