Question Boot lid wont open - What fuses to check??

    Hi folks,

Been away on a course for 3 weeks and when I got back last night the missus casually mentions "Oh - you will need to look at the car, the boot won't open".

So I looked up the manual and tried to find out what fuses to check first but I can't find any info anywhere. Manual says there are fuses in the boot area behind one of the flip down compartments and I've had a look but in the manual it doesn't say there is a fuse for the bootlid mechanism?.

I've had a search here on the forums for "boot lid wont open" and read loads of different things but none seem to mention what fuses relate to what. I don't get any noise coming from the lock when I press either the keyfob or the lock release button in the car, none of the "whirring" that you would normally get so I'm guessing it is electrics related. Just removed all the boot / hatch trim to get into the lock itself but I am not really sure what to try next.

Any tips lads?. It's getting really annoying having to put our sons buggy wheels in and out of the car via the rear seats!!!

If you have a key lockable boot button, has someone set the lock to 'locked' ?

Failing that, REC fuses, fuse 18 civers the tailgate lock - top right fuse in the two fuse strips.

Hi m8, thanks. The car is a 54 plate 3.0 CDTi, doesn't have a key lockable button. That fuse you mention, is it in the fuses in the boot, the engine bay or the ones on the left of the dashboard?. Ta!!

Do you have the contacts for a fuse ? Has someone been fiddling while you were gone ?

Just to be sure, it's the two strips of fuses.... LH from top are 1 - 17, RH from top to bottom are 18 - 29.

    F18 should be a 30A

Nope, boot operation has worked fine since I've had the car, no problems at all. No one has touched the fuses in fact I had no idea they were in there. Strange!!!.

I checked my paper manual as well as the .PDF manual I have and both show that fuse, number 18 as being not listed? :-

I'll go and stick a 30 Amp fuse in it and see what happens but I'd be surprised if it makes any difference if there wasn't a fuse in there in the first place!!!.

Have you tried slaving up another lock as sometime the locks can suffer from water ingress and short out thus no unlock sound when keyfob pressed. You may need to buy a lock from the dealers and return it if not reguired, my local dealer was ok with this.

I'll keep that in mind m8, cheers. Can someone have a look at their fuses in the boot, confirm they have a number 18 in there and maybe even pull it out and see if it kills the boot lock mechanism, then let me know?. I can't for the life of me fathom out what the manuals are telling me regards the fuse not being there in the first place!!!.
