Default Tried clay on the car !!

Decided to give the car a damned good clean as the sun was shining, went down to autosave and got some meguires clay as I had seen it in Andy`s perfect finish post and thought I would give it a bash.

What a difference it made to the paint, can highly reccomend it to anyone, I washed, clayed, polished and waxed, the car looked like a mirror, except the annoying swirls on the bonnet but they are too deep to remove I reckon.

Polished off one of my SRi badges though *lol* so now do I replace them with a vxR badge or an old style red dot SRi badge. Fancy a change ..

Clay needs doing every 3 or 4 months imo.... i had only just done mine, then the car got parked under some trees and was covered in tree sap. Had to do it again. Only takes 15 mins though.

Gives the car a glass smooth finish which makes the polish and wax adhere and shine better (as youve found out)

Bainie - I tried Meguiars Swirl Free polish from their proffessional range on some very deep swirls on my bonnet..... It got rid of them all. Highly recommended.

Should do it... the only scratches it hasn't got out is the ones through the clearcote into the paint..... wouldn't wanna use it too often as i imagine its thinning the clearcote out but as an annual treatment its superb.

a lot of polishes are clever in the fact that they arent very abrasive and dont actually 'cut' the swirls out. All they do is fill them which hides all but the deepest swirls and scratches. As a guide, if you can 'feel' the scratch with your finger nail then nothing but a flat and polish witha rotary (ie bodyshop terriorty) will remove it. Meg NXT wax is pretty good at hiding swirls and so is autoglym super resin but ive not used that for ages since i got my other stuff. A thick glaze like omega is only available mail order but is very good at hiding swirls, the best ive found so far.

Ive not got a swirl remover yet (i badly need one) that i can try with my cyclo buffer but i keep looking on autopia to see what gets good reviews.

Auto Glyms new Ultra Deep Shine polish for darker colours works wonders with the swirl marks.

Have you tried a cutting polish like autoglyms paintwork renovator?
i used that on a section of my dads mondeo then used resin polish then some autoglym extra gloss protection then some meguirs carnuba wax. his is a dark purple colour and seemed to work on the section i tried. though i told him to go and polish his own ****** car so dont know how the whole thing looked afterwards
