Default Compulsary ESC - 2014 onwards

Pardon me if i missed this being posted already, but i have just seen this on the BBC:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-13609388

Electronic Stability Control - Fitted as standard on all EU Cars from 2014 onwards.

Wonder if it is permenant on or if it can be switched?

ESC is already becoming standard, at least in major Western European countries. AFAIK all new Vauxhall models are now being fitted with ESP and not before time. Opel was already fitting it as standard on Vectras for example in a large part of its European market.

As with ABS the UK have been dragging their heels on fitting ESP, in spite of its undoubted safety benefits and reputed additional cost in production of a mere £200.

I very much doubt ESC will be offered as switchable, as its importance will doubtless be seen as paramount, even at the expense of driveability when its becomes too intrusive.
