    Default MOT & HIDs

I booked my MOT today for next week, and asked the garage owner if the new rules regarding HIDs and the requirement to check that headlight washers are fitted was in force yet, and his reply was "Not heard anything like that", so I won't even bother unplugging the HID bulbs and fitting cheapo Halfords halogen bulbs for the test. Let's see what happens...

Mine went through last week with HIDS fitted, no comments from the Inspector

Funny that, it seems to be in loads of "MOT Tester" mags etc but none of the real world MOT testers have heard anything about it

Probably yet to come into effect - when the maximum price for the test gets bumped up, to take account of extra work, then we'll know the rules have changed.

Real world is different than by the book thank goodness.

9 times out of 10 if your beam pattern and alignment are correct hey will pass.

If you took your car and the passenger door was still locked they can fail it if they go by the book.

I've never had a word said about HID's at any MOT. If your MOT tester is friendly then you'll be fine. I can get my car passed aslong as it's nothing major, i don't get advisories either just told your car needs this or that and get it fixed. My garage know they'll get the work though so it's all good

From a recent post on the subject, it's not coming into effect until next year, if at all.
